Feedback on the meeting assessment please!

Hello all, and well done to the presenters in the first round of meetings this week.

Update, week 2 presenter comments needed too, please.

I would like you to pop a wee comment in below please to let the others know what you thought of the assessment - did you perform well, were you surprised at how well you presented, did you take good notes, what did you think of the post meeting feedback etc.?

Any feedback is helpful feedback, both for your own self-reflection and for the others following. You can either post anonymously or by name, and although this isn't mandatory, it really will be helpful to your peers, whether they are in Group A or B.

All the best and thank you in advance - communicating your thoughts really does help.

Mark

  1. Leading up to the presentation I was a little nervous and how I would perform but once I started it was a lot less stressful than I thought it would be. I enjoyed being able to present the information I had spent the last few weeks researching.

Great feedback and I’m glad this was the case for you. As you were one of the 6 yesterday, you performed well and I look forward to reading your minutes in the near future too. Well done and I appreciate your feedback. This is helpful for others moving forward. Mark

  2. This is not nearly as daunting as you might think. Follow the assessment guidelines and the examples Mark has provided us with and you will actually enjoy the meeting and learn quite a lot too. It runs smoothly and you receive lots of encouragement from Mark before, during and after. I am glad I did well. Thank you.

Great stuff, and again, helpful. 13 successful presentations over the last 2 days and all performing to a high level. Lots of great research, application, engagement and ability on show. Lovely stuff. Thanks for posting, it is appreciated and of help to others, whatever group is presenting on 10th or 11th next week. Best, Mark

  4. I dreaded this presentation from the moment I found out about it. Totally out my comfort zone but turned out not to be worth all the worry.. If I can do it, anyone can.. Trust the process guys & goodluck.

Thank you! I am always aware that oral presentations can be tricky for some learners, and as a positive stereotype, Accounts learners love numbers rather than words quite often! That said, you’ve obviously put the work in, knuckled down and really resorted well, for which you take great credit. None of the presenters in week one were borderline or anywhere near it, so this tells me you (probably not just you either!) are dedicated, good listener, structured, well rehearsed, positive and got the result you richly deserve. That’s what learning should be, taking us out the comfort zone a little. We lecturers do this all the time, and keeps us on our toes. Very well done indeed and I appreciate and value your words very much indeed, they will resonate with next week’s presenters. All the best, Mark

      *presented, not resorted!

  5. If you do the research, follow the assessment guide and look at the example slides for structures, this is not a difficult task. Have good cue cards & know your topic, and it’ll be all good. I enjoyed it, and Mark keeps the meeting moving at a good pace. Helpful experience but wouldn’t want to do it every week! Good luck all, it’s a relaxed atmosphere but formal content. Thanks.

Thank you for the feedback. Students often say after the meeting(s) that they’re surprised it goes so quickly and crucially, that they’ve done so well! The old adage of follow the guidance, do the research and prep. and trust your ability almost always yields positive results. Great stuff and well done. See you soon, Mark

  6. I personally think that all presentations in my group were amazing, you can tell everyone done the work and put a lot of effort and thought into their arguments. It really goes to show that if you put the work in and read further into research to know what you’re talking about rather than just going off of bullet points can really make your presentation that much better!!

    1. Ah yes, quite so. Well, even though you are posting as anon., I can indeed confirm that all the talks were amazing. I was very pleased with the standard, for sure, as per my oral feedback after to all candidates. You are quite right, the bullets are there to anchor the spoken word and provide a guide to the further research. Great bit of feedback there, thank you very much, and I must say, the comments after a breath of fresh air. I did say that I was hoping and expecting to be proved right by the standard of talks! Ha. Well done and have a great weekend, whoever you may be. All the best, Mark

  7. Hello all, I’m late to the party here but I really enjoyed the assessment! I prepared, listened to and read the assessment briefings which were clear and got really positive feedback. Thank you! Everybody can do this and I think everything is in the preparation here. I’d be much less nervous giving future talks. Good luck everyone.

Learning CAN be fun, right? Some great thoughts in there which are greatly appreciated, thank you. The more you deliver, the more confident you become, which almost certainly means the actual presentations become improved. All the best, week 2 meetings are imminent, so I shall need to get ready for those. Mark

  8. Now I’ve done the assessment I don’t know why I was concerned about speaking in public. Mark did say that using nerves to your advantage is a good thing and it is. I didn’t know what content the others were going to say, just the agenda topic and that was good hearing their research as well. Meeting went really quick but it was good. Minutes next! Thank you.

Thank you for your thoughts. The common theme here reflecting on the comments is that many students in the Accounts classes recognise that perhaps the speaking and writing parts are going to be challenging, which they are, and not a bad thing, but that these skills are important. Also worth recapping, is that standard of presentations on display, the work ethic and preparation has been second to none in both classes, which has been fantastic to listen to. I’ve really enjoyed the way everybody has knuckled down and some have even committed to saying they’ve enjoyed the experience! Who knew? 😉 I appreciate your comments and have a lovely weekend when it arrives. Mark

  9. Very late to the party here but the presentation was a really enjoyable experience! Did I think it would be - absolutely not! Knowing everyone pretty much felt the same made it easier, but I still felt apprehensive. Fast forward to the actual presentation and who knew I could speak so much! A brilliant experience!

Well, well, well, who knew? (Me 😉) This is tremendous feedback and I’m delighted to read it. I’m grateful you’ve taken the time to articulate your thoughts, too. I think I noted above somewhere, that I’m aware of Accounts learners being “more numbers than words”. But equally, these Business Communication skills (Unit title clue) are SO important in the workplace. I’m delighted also with the standard of the minutes being produced, too. And this all bodes very well for my teaching next week, which is formal business writing. All the best and thanks again, great words. Mark

  10. Hello everyone, I echo the points made above too, I also thought it was a great experience and now I’m ready for any more in the future! I think the thought of doing it was trickier than actually doing it! New skills are locked in! Thanks Mark, you supported us all through the process well and gave us lots of confidence beforehand, during the meeting and after: that was really helpful. I’m happy with my performance and the group did great, loads of great research and delivery skills. Thanks.

Thank you, it’s never easy or comfortable self-congratulating, but I’m delighted you have. And it’s never too late to come to the post assessment blog party, although I imagine there are more exciting ones out there 🤣 Thank you, great words and I enjoyed reading them. All the best, Mark
